Salatut Tasbeeh Isnaad Study – Saheeh or Daeef..??

Taken from the Works Al-Hafith Al-Aala’I (761H)

Close to  a year ago I added an interesting topic about Salatu Tasbih which mainly came from the discussions of Imam Al-Albani. At the beginning of its release , I received numerous concerns about the authenticity of the hadith, while others said Imam Muqbil graded the hadith as weak and when I replied that Imam Al-Albani graded it as authentic along with Ibn Salah, the following response was, “ You aren’t accepting the evidence “. Moreover others, hit Google and were redirected to the Islamqa website. Islamqa has become the quick search and find site for many laymen in the World. I went the link sent to me and found a few arguments about the hadith none which were really convincing other than Isnad is weak, therefore, we need to look at it and find out why its weak and are there any other chains that support it, and have other Imams in the past graded it as being Sahih or Hasan?

The arguments from  from Islam Q/A

1.Ibn Quddamah didn’t mention what Al-Khalal mentioned in Ilal about the dialogue between Imam Ahmed and Ali ibn Sa’eed.

2.Imam An-Nawawi’s mention that involves changing the regular format then the same goes for Eid prayer and the Eclipse prayer.

3.Ibn Tayimiyyah’s speech that none of the four Imams spoke about, then we can say knowledge isn’t restricted to these 4 great Imams;therefore what the practiced or mentioned is accepted or reject worship. Furthermore, Imam Ibn Mubarak acted by it an taught it to others.

4.Imam Al-Uthaymeen mentioned the Isnad had some weakness and was shaky, so lets look at it.

Collected by Abu Dawud(1297) and Ibn Majah (1387)

The Isnad for this hadith is :

Ibn Abbass-

Ikramah- Al-Quraysah He is Abu Abdullah Al-Madani – Imam Al-Bukhari narrated on him

Al-Hakim ibn Aban — Yahya ibn Ma’een , Ahmed Al-Ajli  graded him as being Thiqah

Musa ibn Abdil Aziz—Yahya ibn Ma’een and An-Nisa’I both said: لا بأس به

Abdur Rahman ibn Bashir ibn Al-Hakam—-Narrator in the 6 six books of hadith.

On the surface here the Isnad appears Sahih . Al-Hafith Al-Alaa’I mentioned all the narrators above and their status.

After mentioning the isnad of this hadith Al-Haftih Al-Alaa’I said Ibn Al-Khuzaymah mentioned it in his Sahih. It’s mentioned there # 1216. However Imam Al-‘’Alaa’e failed to mention that  Ibn Khuzaymah pointed to the hadith as being weak by saying, “ If it is Sahih, there is an issue in its isnad.”

Proof of Placing The hands on Chest In Salah (English)

Taken From The Works of-:

  • Shaikh ul Allaamah Al-Haafidh Abu Taahir Zubayr Alee Za’ee (May Allah Preserve him)
  • Shaikh ul Allaamah Al-Haafidh Thanaullaah Zayaa (May Allah Prserve Him)
  • Shaikh ul Allaamah Al-Haafidh Badee ‘ud-Deen Shaah Raashidi as-Sindhee (May Allah have Mercy upon him)
  • Translated and Compiled by: Raza Hassan

Before we continue, It is important to know the meaning of Chest i.e ‘Sadr’ in arabic.  In the arabic dictionary of deoband, Qamoos Al Waheed pg 915, the word ‘Sadr’ means “the chest of a Human (From beneath the throat upto the tummy)”.

We begin with the name of Allaah who is the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy. To proceed:

Sahl ibn Sa’d, may Allaah be pleased with him, reported, “The people were ordered to place their right hand upon their left forearm.” (Saheeh al-Bukhaaree, 1/102)

We can understand from this hadeeth that one should fold ones hands whilst in Salaah. One of the way this hadeeth can be understood is that if the right hand were to be placed upon the left forearm as stated above then naturally, the hands would rest on the chest.

The forearm here means from the finger region of the hand right up to the elbow. In another hadeeth it is reported that, “He (sallelaho alaihi wa alaihi wasalam ) placed his right hand upon his left hand, wrist and forearm.” (Sunan Nasaa’i with the footnotes of Allaamah Sindhee(1/141), AbuDawood(1/112), lbnKhuzairnah(1/243,480) and Ibn Hibbaan (p.485) have all authenticated this narration).  Continue reading

Khaas Dalaail (Specific Evidences):

1. The narration of Anas (radiallah anhu):

Mahmood (b. Ishaaq) narrated to us, (he) said: Al-Bukhari narrated to us, (he) said: Yahya b. Yusuf (Al-Zami) narrated to us, Ubaidullah (b. Amr al-Raqi) informed us, From Ayyub (b. Abi Tameemah As-Sakhtiyani), From Abu Qilabah (Abdullah b. Zayd Al-Jarmi), From Anas [radiallah anhu] that:
Verily the Prophet [peace be upon him] led his companions in prayer, thus when he finished his prayer, he said while facing towards them: “Do you recite in your prayer when the Imam is reciting?” thus they remained silent, so he [peace be upon him] asked this three times. Thus one or many people said: “Certainly we do so.” He [peace be upon him] said: “thus do not do so, and everyone of you should recite Surah Faatihah to your self (silently).”

There is No Difference Between Men & Women Salah

The way in which women pray is the same as the way in which men pray in every part of the prayer, prostration, sitting, and so on. This is based on the following evidence:

1 – The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Pray as you have seen me praying.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari. This is addressed to both men and woman.

Shaykh al-Albaani (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

Everything that we have said above about the way in which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) prayed applies equally to men and women. There is nothing narrated in the Sunnah which implies that women are exempted from any of that. Rather the general meaning of the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), “Pray as you have seen me praying,” include women too.
